This recent Bitcoin price rise has caused a lot of speculation and confusion. It seems the upcoming technical upgrades, combined with big investors, are to blame for this sudden change of pace. Everything Comes up Bitcoin The year 2018 has not been too great for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies thus far. With a strong bearish trend during Q1 of this year, naysayers were convinced this would be the end for Bitcoin. In reality, it seems as if the markets are recovering pretty quickly. A temporary dip will occur regardless, as is only to be expected at this stage. Even so, the upcoming technical advancements for Bitcoin will make a big…

Think Piece: Fighting Hyperinflation with Cryptocurrencies

Source: Blog - Digix

By Lucia Ziyuan*With the rising interest in cryptocurrencies and alarming signs of dollar collapse, it’s about time we revisit history for signs of hyperinflation and potential ways to combat it.Hyperinflation is when monetary devaluation happens so rapidly and out of control that inflation exceeds 50% per month or 100% over three years. Hyperinflation is a relatively recent phenomenon of the last century after fiat currency became widespread.Unlike gold or silver, fiat currencies are paper money with no intrinsic value. Ever since the US dollar’s uncoupling with gold in 1971, the paper bill’s denominated value is no longer backed by a physical commodity. Instead, its value is determined by supply and demand, backed by our trust in the issuing authority’s ability to keep interest rate low. The use of paper money is a necessary condition for hyperinflation to occur. In almost all documented cases of…

It seems that there is an interesting new cryptocurrency called JSEcoin that is targeted at offering webmasters a different way to monetizing their website traffic. Essentially allowing visitors to the website to mine the cryptocurrency with the help of small piece of javascript code embedded on the blog or website. The algorithm is not very heavy or demanding and the mining process itself does not seem to be taking too much CPU resources (it is CPU only), so the computer remains responsive and working just fine as if it is not calculating anything. This is making it pretty interesting for owners of big websites with more visitors, especially visitors that stay longer, but also makes it easy for regular users that are not yet into cryptocurrencies to actually get into mining this new cryptocoin as it only requires you to…

BitMain Apparently Releasing 8x GPU AMD and Nvidia Miners in China

It seems that BitMain is willing to extend its presence from just the ASIC mining market as the company is apparently releasing two new devices for miners that are essentially dedicated GPU miners. For now the devices dubbed G1 with 8x GeForce GTX 1060 GPUs and G2 with 8x Radeon RX570 GPUs are only listed on the Chinese website of the company with prices only in CNY. This means that they are most likely targeted initially for the Chinese miners market and may not be sold outside of the country. Inside the server like cases we are expecting to see mining versions of the GPUs being used as this is the way to go with such solutions intended for large scale mining operations and not for small home miners. As one would expect the devices are targeted at Ethereum (ETH)…

The chances are not many of you have heard about the Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A motherboard that is intended for 6x GPU mining rigs and the reason for that is probably the fact that Gigabyte hasn’t been promoting this product much as a mining motherboard. Gigabyte is a bit late on the GPU mining front with a motherboard designed for mining rigs with the GA-H110-D3A, even though the motherboard comes with up to date specs. That however does not mean that the company hasn’t been offering other higher-end products that are good to go for use for crypto mining, there are quite a few of these already and we have been using some of the models ourselves. The GA-H110-D3A however is still new for us and we are going to be giving it a try and sharing our experience with the motherboard…

Anti Danilevski, CEO of KICKICO, a Russian blockchain platform for initial coin offerings, explains that during financial difficulties, Bitcoin has already been performing in analogous ways to gold — representing a calm harbor for investors. “During the last year S&P 500 index was decreased, gold (GLD) increased by 14.4%, whereas Bitcoin increased by 74.9%,” Danilevski said. “During the last five years, S&P 500 increased by 68.8%, gold decreased by 26.5%, whilst bitcoin grew by an impressive 24.9%.” Danilevski believes cryptocurrency is not only a good backup plan, but compared to gold, it grows considerably more in its price with a growing market. Cryptocurrency Market Cap Climbs Over $150 Billion

The past week has been a prime illustration of the way in which the cryptocurrency can move up and down both very quickly and by large margins. Last weekend, nearly all of the top digital currencies fell precipitously in value, some declining by as much as 50% in price over a span of just 24 to 48 hours. According to Coin Desk, the industry fell by about 25% overall during that time, and the fall started just after digital currencies had reached an all-time high. The quick sell-off had some analysts wondering if this was the beginning of a crash. And yet, just a few days later, the industry has regained much of that lost ground, growing by about $150 billion to reclaim some of the value which was lost. 17% Regained by Wednesday After the drop of about 25%,…

Howard Marks Issues a Mea Culpa on Bitcoin, But He’s Still Not Investing

Billionaire investor Howard Marks, who ignited a fierce backlash from cryptocurrency advocates after dubbing bitcoin a “fad” in July, has a had change of heart. Well, sort of. Photographer: Christopher Goodney/Bloomberg Bitcoin, in fact, boasts a key attribute that may spur the digital method of exchange to serve as an alternative to legal tenders and as a store of value in the years to come: the simple fact that people believe in it. “What bitcoin partisans have told me subsequently is that bitcoin should be thought of as a currency — a medium of exchange — not an investment asset,” the Oaktree Capital Group LLC co-chairman wrote in a client memo Thursday. There’s no obvious reason why government-issued fiat currencies are superior to digital currencies, he adds. “So my initial bottom line is that I see no reason why bitcoin…
