Building Censorship Resistant Tools and The Introduction to Custom Bootnodes and Mail Servers

Source: Blog - Status.im

At Status, we are building censorship resistant tools to help ensure all people have the right to freedom of speech and privacy. We have seen far too often oppressive governments taking advantage of centralized services to monitor, censor and outright restrict open communication. We have seen Telegram shut down in Iran during protests, as well as be severely restricted in Russia. In fact, Status faced similar issues in Russia on the road to creating a more thoroughly censorship resistant means of communicating and interacting. The Ethereum public blockchain is the foundation on which we can achieve this goal, but it requires a lot of work by the talented developers in the community committed to the vision of a decentralized and open web. We took a large step in the right direction in this week’s release (0.9.20) with the introduction of custom bootnodes…

Since ecology is all about interconnection and unending change, creating patterns of causation that shape every organism and phenomenon, “thinking like an ecosystem” for me means living in the perpetual “why.”Building the technologies that are powering the next wave of human innovation means that we all need to start thinking more like ecosystems. In fact, one of the defining features of being human is the ability to construct shared fictions with no material existence that allow increasing numbers of other human beings to organise effectively. This holds true for everything from organised religions to limited liability corporations. In fact, the LLC was perhaps the most powerful legal fiction humans had discovered until 2009. But now we have cryptographically-assured tokens created and distributed on public, global, immutable…

Source: Blog - Iconomi.net

DAA Manager Insights: Global Crypto OneDAA manager Dr. Achim Illner of Global Crypto One (GCO) believes Bitcoin as a store of value is the most important business case in the entire crypto-economy. Learn more about his views about Bitcoin, the crypto ecosystem in Germany, and more in this week’s interview. We are seeing more and more activity in the German crypto ecosystem. What is one aspect you find interesting?Germany itself is quite decentralized, with different approaches to crypto in major hubs like Berlin (VC and developers), Frankfurt (fintech), and the Ruhr area (cypherunderground).Nevertheless, German contributions to the crypto ecosystem have always been strong because of German developers (IOTA, Lisk, etc.). Developers (and not marketers) delivering products is what is most needed in the current stage of the overall market. To summarize: there is an active, growing crypto scene in Germany, despite the relatively…

Meet the Team: 90 seconds with… Ryan Gledhill

As part of our regular feature, we’ll be finding out more about the people behind FunFair Technologies and what makes them tick. Next up is Ryan Gledhill, who is our Lead Frontend Developer. Hi Ryan, what does your day look like today? Fixing bugs! We’ve just started our Beta and our testers are doing a great job keeping us on our toes. Why did you join FunFair? I’ve been obsessed with all things crypto for over a year now and I’m certain blockchain technology will change the world. The opportunity to join a well thought of, trailblazing startup in a nascent industry was impossible to pass up. I also think FunFair is one of the very few crypto use-cases that utilise the technology to solve a genuine industry problem as opposed to it just being the latest buzz word. What is your favourite thing about…

Новый релиз ноды Waves: транзакции данных, обновленный Proof of Stake и возможность сжигать токены

Source: Blog - Wavesplatform

Waves Node: Major Update

Source: Blog - Wavesplatform

This release sees a number of significant developments, including data transactions, Fair PoS, token burning and sponsored transactions.Data TransactionsData Transactions allow anyone post information to the blockchain. The maximum size of a data transaction is around 140kb. Fees for data transactions, calculated in WAVES, are proportional to transaction size: 100,000 per kilobyte, rounded up to the nearest kb. Since the transaction size is limited to 140kb, it will cost just 0.14 WAVES (less that $1). You can find out more about Data Transactions here: https://docs.wavesplatform.com/technical-details/data-transaction.htmlFair Proof of StakeThis is an update to our PoS system that removes some of the disadvantages for smaller miners. Whilst PoS should allow anyone to receive mining rewards in proportion to their WAVES balance, in practice the odds are stacked in favour of larger miners, who create a higher share of blocks. The protocol has been…

A Spring in Our Step – May 2018 Update
Source: Blog - Maidsafe.net

Following the excitement of SAFE DevCon 2018 in late April, May has been a month of hard work that culminated in the release of PARSEC.  This latest innovation is not only an amazing achievement for the MaidSafe team but also a paradigm shift for asynchronous and permissionless consensus that could benefit many projects.   Going from Strength to StrengthMore on PARSEC later but let’s have a look at some of the other developments first. As announced at SAFE DevCon 2018, we are removing our commercial licence and the contributor agreement to reaffirm our commitment to open source.  The team have therefore been spending time switching of core libraries and SAFE client libs as well as creating documentation (these will be hosted on the newly created SAFE Dev Hub) to assist other developers with understanding these changes. There will be some exceptions…

We are happy to announce the new release of Golem Brass Beta 0.16.0.Important! This version introduces changes to the Golem protocol and uses cryptography for signing and serializing messages so it’s not compatible with the previous Golem versions. Nodes running 0.16.0 would be able to only compute tasks from nodes that are running this updated version.Brass Beta 0.16.0 improves the general performance of the network, and additionally, of the entire application.
